The Guess Who

“The Doors? Jim Morrison? He’s a drunken buffoon posing as a poet. Give me The Guess Who. They got the courage to be drunken buffoons, which makes them poetic.”

Burton Cummings is way too slept on.

James Mason was an amazing Keyboardist / Guitarist / Songwriter and often-collaborator with jazz-funk greats Roy Ayers and Leroy Hutson (Who co-wrote The Ghetto with Donny Hathaway). On Rhythm Of Life, Mason blesses us with powerful soulful funk tunes with otherworldly vocals courtesy of the uber-mysterious Clarice Taylor.

Record collector nerds, such as myself, have fetishized this album for years now but recently it’s been getting a lot of play in my iTunes. This is a timeless classic. The whole album is great but check Sweet Power Your Embrace, Funny Girl, Good Thing, and Free for a little something extra.

Other than to say, “Go get this,” I’m not really one to write too much about music. With that said, go get this.
